This year, the Suzuki Equator (check it out at Suzuki Canada’s site) showed us that once again, fearless innovation is the rule. This is Suzuki’s first ever entry into the pickup market.
The Equator is a mid-size pickup with surprising fuel efficiency for its class: a city/highway rating of 14.4/10.8 liters per 100 km (or 20/27 miles per gallon). This only makes sense, given that it’s entering the market during a new era of conservation minded, thrifty drivers.

For a century, Suzuki has led the way in innovation and styling ranging across motorcycles, marine motors, ATVs and the new and used cars we sell in Peterborough and the Kawarthas.
Like Del Mastro Motors, Suzuki began as a family-run business. In 1909 weaver Michio Suzuki founded the company as a launching point for numerous innovations in that industry; by 1929 he had filed over 100 patents. Suzuki then concentrated on diversifying the business, applying its inventiveness to motor vehicles by 1937. After making inroads with early compact cars, the Second World War forced Suzuki to return to the weaving business ? but by 1951, he and his company were ready to return to motor vehicles. Suzuki started again, inventing a new engine for gas-powered bicycles and earning a subsidy for new inventions. The company restarted automobile sales in 1955. Their first car included front wheel drive, four wheel independent suspension and other features that were ahead of their time.
Suzuki expanded to Canada in 1973. Starting with the LJ-series jeep, Suzuki Canada eventually progressed to a diverse range of vehicles, including the Forsa and several vehicles designed to be sold through a partnership with General Motors. In 1986, the two companies founded CAMI Automotive, Inc. and its Ingersoll, Ontario factory, making Suzuki a true ?made in Canada? choice for car buyers.
